Like emerging from a deep winter slumber, populations around the world are taking small steps to return to the new normal. Select businesses are opening their doors and restrictions on crowd gatherings are loosening. Slowly, people are emerging from their isolation and reconnecting. The light is beginning to peek through the proverbial tunnel.
However necessary these protocols that kept us safe, they have not been without consequence. We sacrificed our connection with the outdoors and distanced ourselves from loved ones. Walks in the park were replaced with yoga on the web and human intimacy with family and friends were substituted with online video chats. These challenging times have trapped us in a world where people suddenly stopped seeking, and hiding became the widely accepted norm as people around the world sheltered in place.
One thing we must not forget as we bravely endure what must be done, is that isolation is anything but normal. We are naturally social, curious and innately driven to seek. Especially children.
A time will come when we emerge from this. As they say, this too shall pass. And we shall all be stronger for it. Better in touch with ourselves and eager to start seeking again and ready for whatever comes next.
